WHEN SHOULD I CALL FIND THE RIGHT LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE?
AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER THE INCIDENT – Every state has statutes of limitations which are time limits within which you must commence a lawsuit or you will be forever barred. For example, in New York State, if medical malpractice occurs, you have two and a half years from the date of the malpractice to begin a lawsuit. If you do not commence the lawsuit before the expiration of two and a half years- with certain very limited exceptions- you can no longer bring a lawsuit, no matter how valid your claim may have been. Similarly, in New York, if you are seriously injured in a car accident due to someone else’s negligence, you will have three years from the date of the accident to begin your lawsuit. If you do not begin your lawsuit within three years of the accident, you can no longer bring a lawsuit, no matter how valid your claim may have been if it was timely filed.
